Terms 3 and 4

Can we help the Iron Man?

Over terms 3 and 4, our topic has been robots.  We have based the start of our work around the Iron Man story, which we read in class.

We had an exciting event at school, when a robot head crash landed in our playground!

The map below shows pictures of the event and also other places where robot parts were found.

Our immersive area is a robot workshop, overseen by our, not-so-stern robot boss.  He seems to quite enjoy watching everyone work. This is part of our robot workshop.  We are using recyclable materials, and art equipment, to build robots of different shapes and sizes.

Our recounts of that mysterious day!

We wrote robot stories based on the mysterious happening at school. We used a story mountain to plan the different parts of the story
To help describe some of the settings, we used the film Robots.

Terms 1 and 2

Can I save the rainforest?

This term our topic is rainforests.  We have explored what a rainforest is like to live in, which animals call rainforests home and what a rainforest is made up of.

In English, we have used our vocabulary to describe the animals that live in a rainforest, used our senses to describe living in a rainforest and wrote a story about Bob, an explorer who lives in a rainforest.

In maths, we have been exploring place value and number, building up our knowledge and skills with addition and subtraction, classified 2-d and 3-d shapes, begun to tell the time on an analogue clock and used images to explore fractions and symmetry.

In art, we have been studying the works of Henri Rousseau.  We have developed our skills in colour mixing, understanding the different elements that make up art and worked on our understanding of foreground and background before doing a water colour painting in the style of Rousseau.
