Welcome to Mr Tugwell's Class
The adults in our class are, Mr Tugwell (class teacher) Miss Crampton and Miss Hodgson (Teaching Assistants)
So far this school year we are all off to a fantastic start. We are really proud of how well our everyone is doing.
Homework
Home will be handed out on a Friday to be returned to school the following Friday. We appreciate home life can be very busy at times so we always remind our children that they are also able to complete their homework in their morning activity time or in quiet choosing time if they wish too.
This term our learning is class is based around the book Words Worst Children 2, by the author David Walliams. So far we are really enjoying this story and are begging our grown ups to read more when they leave it on a cliff hanger!
"The brilliant follow-up to David Walliams’ bestseller The World’s Worst Children! If you thought you had read about the World’s Worst Children already, you’re in for a rather nasty shock. The beastly boys and gruesome girls in this book are even ruder, even more disgusting and WORSE than you could ever imagine!"
English
We always start our class book right away, we spend our first few weeks doing lots of reading tasks to really engage and know the story inside out. This leads us on to some brilliant writing. During the Autumn term we will be reading World’s Worst Children 2! In this book we will be exploring stories of the most awful children imaginable. Our learning will focus on persuasive writing, narrative poems and writing our own stories based on the crazy characters. To develop our persuasive writing we will read the story ‘Harry Who Never Ever Did His Homework’ and write persuasive letters about whether schools should continue to give out homework. To improve our story writing, ‘Stacey Superstar’ will write our class a letter requesting a new story to entertain her. Lastly, we will choose our favourite stories from the book to turn into narrative poems, adding lots of exciting poetry techniques to the already amazing stories!
Maths
Our maths lessons this term are all about getting back to the basics! We will be securing our knowledge of place value using a wide range of practical resources like numicon and base 10. From this we will apply our place value skills to the four operations and beyond, covering geometry, measure and statistics.
Science
In Science this term we our studying the digestive system. To start the term we our learning about teeth, how to keep them clean and their different functions. We have already started an exciting experiment into tooth decay by leaving eggs in different liquids. We will then go on to learn about the different organs in the digestive system.
PE
PE will be on a Thursday afternoon, This term we are learning all about Basket ball and developing skills around this sport. Please ensure your child has a PE kit (plain t-shirt, plain navy or black shorts/tracksuit bottoms and plimsolls with non marking soles).
