11th September 2020
I am writing to welcome you all back and to welcome all of the new pupils and families who have started at Fortuna this term. I have been so proud of the way that the pupils have come back into school and embraced the changes that have been put in place amidst these strange times.
I also wanted to share with you some further updates about the way the school are working to minimise the risks of transmission of COVID 19 and to ask you for your support in this.
If your child has any of the following symptoms:
They must not attend school and should have a COVID 19 test as soon as possible. The school will need confirmation of a negative result before they will be allowed to return to school.
If your child develops any of the symptoms, associated with COVID 19 whilst at school, we will contact you and ask you to collect your child ASAP. As mentioned in the previous letter, your child will not be allowed to use school transport in these circumstances.
If there is a confirmed case of COVID 19 in school, all pupils and staff in that bubble will be required to isolate for 14 days before returning to school.
In order to allow for new starters to have a staggered start to their time at Fortuna school, transport have been collecting pupils at the times agreed. However there have been some difficulties in taxis being able to get back to school to collect the other pupils, as the times are extending. We have therefore made the decision that next week, new pupils finish times will be as follows:
If you wish to discuss your pupil’s finish times or have any concerns or queries, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Following advice from the local authority this week, we will be encouraging pupils to wear their face coverings in the taxi. Teachers will be speaking to pupils to remind them of the importance of this and to ensure consistency in our approach to this. I ask that you support us in this by reiterating this message. If there are on-going issues with this, school will contact you to discuss.
For safeguarding purposes and in line with our e safety policy, pupils are not allowed to bring into the taxi hand held games or tablets or any device that can connect to the internet or take photographs. Our e safety policy can be found on the school website should you require further information. Your child can bring other activities to do in the taxi, though in line with the school’s COVID 19 policy, these will need to remain in the vehicle. School will be providing each taxi with an activity box with games, puzzles and DVD players as we appreciate that many of the pupils make a very long journey to school. We are hoping these will be ready within the next couple of weeks.
The school usually use home/school diaries to enable you to have daily communication with your child’s class teacher. Due to COVID restrictions and to limit thing being brought to and from school, this is not possible at this time. We recognise that good communication between home and school is fundamental, especially at the start of a school year. Teachers will therefore phone weekly to provide you with an update as to how your child is getting on. Should you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher during the week, please do contact them via the school office.
As always, I thank you for your support and wish you all a lovely weekend. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything you wish to discuss or any further support we can offer.
